Atlanta Area Council
Boy Scouts of America
On Tuesday, June 4, we work with the non-profit organization Streetgrace to provide lunches for young children in Atlanta. Streetgrace is a “faith-based organization leading churches, community organizations and individual volunteers on a comprehensive path to end human trafficking in Metro Atlanta and throughout the United States.” One way can help end human trafficking is to provide lunches to at-risk children to help them be less vulnerable to trafficking.
The morning of the event, we will meet at JCUMC at 8:00 AM to create 200 lunches. The lunches have to be delivered to a location in Tucker by 10:30 AM for distribution. The lunches will consist of a ham and cheese sandwich, a salty snack, a fruit snack, and a water bottle in a paper bag. In general, Scouts will be responsible for providing lunch contents, but related details will be provided closer to the event, and will depend on how many Scouts participate. Pioneering, Movie Night
It is that time of year for residents in the Amberleigh, Cambridge, Creekstone Estates, Devonhall, Huntington, Laurelwood, Seven Oaks and Shakerag neighborhoods to show their patriotic spirit during our national holidays by subscribing to the 2013 Boy Scout Flag Subscription.
Troop 143 Parents,
We need your assistance to ensure our Troop gear is properly cared for by our Scouts.
Following our campouts, every Scout that participated in the trip is given an item to clean and return to the Troop on the following Monday or the following Monday. Increasingly the Troop gear has been returned in less than appropriate condition. Primarily it's our Troop tents that have been retuned wet, dirty and in poor condition. This is unacceptable and does not teach accountability/responsibility.
The Troop tries to keep the yearly dues as low as possible and to continue to do that we need to ensure our gear is properly cared for following the campouts. We are asking you to "closely supervise and coach" your Scout when he is cleaning the gear sent home with him. When tents and gear are not cleaned and returned correctly it is often not until while on the next campout that the “condition” is obvious. We are putting steps in place to avoid such an issue since this can exacerabate asthma, etc.
